Why Organic Sunblock Lotion is the best choice for Summer PLUS how you can win one of your own!

Summer is here! No doubt about that! Have you been out in the sun lately? Have you taken your trusted sun protection?

Organic Sunblock Lotion 2oz.

Organic Sunblock Lotion 2oz.

Today I am talking about the difference between Sun BLOCK and Sun SCREEN!
Sun BLOCK helps to BLOCK the sun’s rays from your skin, just as the name implies. Sun SCREEN helps to SCREEN the rays from being absorbed.

Sunblock is commonly made with minerals to reflect the suns UVB & UVA rays away from the skin. Think of the minerals as a thousand tiny mirrors reflecting the suns rays away from your skin! This is also the best option for the whole family, including children & babies! Here is the one I make with a base of my own Handmade Organic Calendula Lotion!

Sun SCREEN is made with synthetic chemical compounds that are absorbed into your skin which in turn SCREEN’S the suns UVA & UVB rays from affecting your skin. The only downfall I see with this version is the “absorbing” part. It is my opinion that ANYTHING absorbed into your skin that is NOT FOOD, or edible, should not be put on your skin. Our bodies are constantly battling environmental toxins, think pollution, and internal toxins, think water supply fluoridation & preservatives, that they are over burdened as it is! Why add anything more to the mix? Here is a post from one of my favorite blogs that breaks down 6 reasons to not use Spray Sunscreen!

A lot of times people choose what they have always known because it works and they have not had a reason yet to question it. For example, my Mom always used Coppertone Babies SPF 60 on me as a kid. I would burn so easy that when I went to see the ocean for the first time, at the age of 12, at Daytona Beach Florida, my eyelids burnt within 20 minutes. Who gets burnt EYELIDS? It was a battle every summer. Coppertone is what my Grandma used on her, so she used it on me. It was in fact a Sun SCREEN, and had to be applied 15 minutes prior to sun exposure so it would chemically react with my skin to protect me from the rays. Now I have a child of my own, and I have learned from research and my own discernment that I choose Sun BLOCK!

Which one do you use? Tell me in the comments below your thoughts on the whole subject and Why or Why Not you would choose Sun BLOCK or Sun SCREEN?

  1. Hi Melissa !!

What a great giveaway. I LOVE your products and would be super duper happy to win =D. Hope you and yours are doing well.

  2. My husband works outside all day and I have definitely learned the value of using a sunblock. I am so glad that there are natural options out there now instead of all of the chemicals in the sun screens.

  3. I never knew there was a sunblock lotion this has helped so many ways and with a small child i don’t want it obsorbed into his skin one and 2 i want him protected since he’s so fair skin so looks like this is the best out there and way to go and he will be protected safely from the sun

  4. Sunblock for sure! I think sunscreen has become the common term, ever for natural forms of sunscreen because it is commonly used. However, I prefer the form that shields my skin from the sun, not the kind that contains harmful chemicals that seep into my skin! Thanks for another AWESOME giveaway! 🙂

  5. I choose sunblock because every time I’ve used sunscreen in the past it has seriously hurt my skin. It burns. Melanoma runs in my family, so I try to make sure my skin is protected at all times. It’s a difficult thing to do when your skin is so sensitive. A gentle sunblock is very important!
